AeroTex UK have a strong background in the field of structural dynamics and vibration. With significant experience gained through working with rotorcraft AeroTex has proved its competency in applying structural dynamics to vibration issues across the disciplines.

Our Capabilities Include:

Dynamic FE model build and validation

AeroTex has extensive experience in building and analysing complex structural models, working with both aircraft primes and research organisations, dealing with small sections or entire aircraft, considering modal testing and model correlation.

Ground Vibration Testing

AeroTex has a strong background in ground vibration testing, with experience on a range of test articles from missiles through to full aircraft. From selection and optimisation of instrumentation types and locations, through to analysis of results we can guide your project smoothly.

Rap Testing

With our wealth of experience, AeroTex can help you plan and carry out vibration testing to extract structural modal frequencies, damping and mode shapes. Our team of consultants have experience in using systems from Siemens/LMS, HBK and NI for hammer, forced vibration testing.

Vibration Mitigation

AeroTex has worked on vibration mitigation, providing trials and instrumentation plans, carrying out testing and developing vibration reduction schemes, in a wide range of scenarios including a wind tunnel and an air ambulance.

Lectures on Rotorcraft Vibration

AeroTex can support your training requirements by guiding and up-skilling your staff to enable them to conduct the testing in the future.

Some project examples:

Rotorcraft Modelling

AeroTex has worked with an aircraft prime to develop a whole aircraft model of an airframe (including engine installations) and used this for correlation activities such as:

  • Validation against the strain gauge data from static testing.
  • Automatic mass ballasting of more than 60,000 items and validation against Ground Vibration Tests.
  • Fuel manoeuvre loads calculations
  • Application of Aerodynamic Pressure loads.

Rotorcraft Clearance

AeroTex has carried out a range of tasks related to vibration of additional rotorcraft elements including:

  • Adaptation & mass ballasting of the FE model for application to vibration assessment
  • Development of mass/stiffness models
  • Identification of critical configurations – modal analysis for complete range of additional loads.
  • Providing test support to identify instrumentation lay-out and loading positions/directions
  • Completion of a FE model update
  • Development of vibration mitigation schemes

Air Ambulance Rap Testing

AeroTex has performed vibration assessments on various rotorcraft installations, providing data to assess mode shape and frequency placement relative to the blade passing frequency. Examples include;

  • Rotor/propeller blades
  • Operator consoles
  • Camera installations
  • Air ambulance equipment
